On 13th March, I had the opportunity to host a Black Sport Collective football tournament and social in collaboration with Motion Sportswear UK, bringing students together for an afternoon of sport, competition, and good vibes.
The tournament was played in a 6-a-side format, with four teams competing across a series of fast-paced 10-minute matches. The energy throughout the games was high, with everyone fully involved and enjoying the competitive atmosphere. After the initial rounds, the tournament progressed into the semi-finals and then the final, which even went into extra time.
In the end, Team Arses came out as the winners, taking home £15 each along with grip socks provided by Motion Sportswear UK.
Following the tournament, we headed over to the World Cup Suite at Surrey Sports Park for the social. Students were able to enjoy food, take part in prize giving, and get involved in a Kahoot quiz, which added a fun and interactive element to the event.
It was great to see everyone come together, not just for the football but for the sense of community the event created. The atmosphere was genuinely positive, and it was nice to see students connecting, having fun, and enjoying the moment.
The good vibes didn’t stop there, as many students continued the energy into Stag Hill Carnival later that evening.
Overall, it was a really successful event that brought together sport, community, and culture in a way that reflects what the Black Sport Collective is all about.
