Luana is your current VP Voice and this is her second year in the position, before this she was in multiple roles across the Union and University. In her final Speak Week, we ask her the main campaign questions and hear her thoughts about what changes are needed across the University and Union.
Reviewing assessment criteria and improving communications around marking and feedback to ensure better student understanding.
Establishing a centralised approach to international student support to raise student awareness and ensure cross-collaboration between different support services.
Improving quality and uptake of staff training on supporting students with neurodiversity and mental health.
Standardising student voice initiatives across faculties, so that course reps are fully supported to succeed in their role and student feedback is heard and actioned.
Reinstating funding for clubs and societies that support with open days and prioritising investment in student-led activities.
What would you change if you were in charge of the SU?
Improving our awareness campaigns, such as LGBTQ+ History Month and Black History Month; and making them more collaborative with planned activities across zones and greater involvement from student officers, societies and volunteers.
Improving Surrey Belonging by developing connections between belonging events and awareness campaigns to enhance sense of belonging for students from underrepresented communities.
Expanding Course Rep Training by establishing a programme of additional training opportunities early in the year; and ensuring they're relevant, helpful and effective.
Reframing Part-Time Officer training and guidance to ensure officers across zones have the same amount of support and are able to achieve their manifestos.
Enhancing support for Society Signatories, with a set programme of socials for networking and potentially additional training sessions to support committee members to succeed in their role.
Did you know there is still time to submit your change suggestions? Submit your thoughts and opinions here before Monday 4 May for a chance to enter our £100 prize draw! You need to be in it to win it.
Speak Week takes place from 27 April - 1 May. During this campaign, we ask students for their feedback about the Union and University. This is your chance to share your ideas on how you would change, improve or add to the University Experience. Find out more about Speak Week here.
