On Sunday 18 October 2026, a coach full of students set off from campus at 08:30 for a day in Bath, one of the UK’s most beautiful and historic cities. The trip offered the perfect mix of culture, architecture, food, and time to explore with friends. After a full day of wandering through Roman, Georgian, and modern streets, the group returned to campus around 20:00, tired, happy, and already planning their next journey.

Stepping Back in Time

The day began with the coach journey, giving students a chance to chat, make new friends, and get excited about what was ahead. On arrival in Bath, the first stop set the day's tone: the iconic Roman Baths.

Walking through the ancient complex, students saw the Great Bath, intricate stonework, and artefacts that tell the story of Bath as a centre of Roman life, ritual, and relaxation. With audio guides and museum displays bringing the history to life, many were struck by how seamlessly the city’s modern streets sit on top of layers of history stretching back nearly 2,000 years.

From there, the group moved into Bath’s Georgian heart, wandering towards the Royal Crescent and The Circus. These world-famous streets, with their curved terraces and honey-coloured stone, offered incredible photo opportunities and a chance to appreciate why Bath is recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Standing in the middle of The Circus and looking up at the sweeping façades, students got a real sense of the city’s architectural ambition and elegance.

Students then explored Bath’s historic alleys and side streets, discovering independent shops, quiet courtyards, and viewpoints that highlighted the city’s unique character. The mix of main landmarks and hidden corners made the day feel both structured and full of personal discoveries.

Food, Fudge, and Coffee Breaks

No trip is complete without good food, and Bath certainly delivered.

The day started with breakfast featuring Bath’s famous fudge and excellent coffee, giving everyone an early taste of the local sweet treats. The rich fudge and carefully crafted coffee quickly became talking points, and more than a few students left Bath with boxes of fudge to take back to campus.

Around lunchtime, I joined a small group of students at The Salamander, a cosy gastropub, where I had classic fish and chips. It was a welcome chance to sit down, enjoy a proper meal, and chat about the morning’s sightseeing in a relaxed setting away from the busier streets.

In the evening, before boarding the coach back to campus, I visited The Real Italian Pizza Co, where I enjoyed authentic Italian pizza for dinner. It was the perfect way to round off the day, taking a moment to relax and reflect on everything I’d managed to see and do before heading back to campus.
