Our mission is to position Surrey at the forefront of neurotechnology innovation—connecting students with the cutting-edge of neuroscience, AI, and technology.

Surrey Neurotech Society is the university’s first student group dedicated to neurotechnology and the fourth in the entire country. We bring together students from psychology, computer science, engineering, biomedical sciences, and more to explore how technology and neuroscience can work together to enhance human potential.

Our activities include:

Hands-On Learning
We offer practical experiences including workshops, journal clubs, and projects such as building brain-computer interfaces.

Talks and Events
We host expert speakers from academia, startups, and industry to share insights into emerging developments in neurotech, AI, and cognitive science.

Inter-University Collaborations
We are planning large-scale events including hackathons, symposiums, and networking initiatives with other leading related societies.

Networking and Industry Links
We create opportunities to connect students with researchers and companies, opening doors to internships, research collaborations, and career insights.

Socials and Community
We run informal social events and maintain an active virtual community on platforms such as WhatsApp to support discussion, collaboration, and connection.

Shaping the Future of Neurotech at Surrey
We’re advocating for more neurotech teaching and research opportunities at the university, helping build a lasting infrastructure for future students.

Whether you're looking to build, research, network, or just learn, Surrey Neurotech is open to all—no experience needed, only curiosity and drive.

Aims

The aims of Neurotech Society are to create an inclusive community for students interested in neuroscience, neurotechnology, artificial intelligence, computing, engineering, psychology, biology, ethics and related fields. The society brings together individuals from diverse academic backgrounds and provides a welcoming environment to explore shared interests. The society aims to increase student awareness and understanding of neurotechnology through activities such as talks, workshops, discussions, reading groups, guest speaker events and collaborative learning opportunities. It also supports interdisciplinary collaboration between students from fields including life sciences, psychology, computer science, engineering, health sciences and business. Another key aim is to provide career and employability opportunities by introducing members to relevant research areas, industry developments, postgraduate pathways, internships, start-ups and professional networks. The society also promotes responsible and ethical discussion of neurotechnology, including issues such as data privacy, consent, accessibility, bias, safety and the wider social impact of emerging technologies. The society also aims to organise accessible social events that allow members to connect with others who share similar interests and build a supportive student community. It will collaborate with other societies, academic departments, student groups and external speakers where appropriate.

Existence

Neurotech Society should exist to create a dedicated student community for those interested in the intersection of neuroscience, technology, and other related scientific fields. Neurotechnology is a rapidly developing field with relevance to brain-computer interfaces, neural data, neuroimaging, computational neuroscience, assistive technology, AI, wearable technology and human-computer interaction. At present, students interested in these areas may be spread across different courses and departments, with limited opportunity to meet, collaborate, learn and discuss the field in an accessible student-led environment. The society will help students explore neurotechnology through talks, workshops, discussion sessions, socials, reading groups, collaboration opportunities and career-focused events. It will encourage interdisciplinary learning and allow students from both science and technology backgrounds to develop confidence in a field that often requires knowledge from multiple disciplines. We aim to support student employability, academic curiosity, responsible innovation and community-building, and provide a space to discuss the ethical, legal and social implications of neurotechnology, including privacy, consent, accessibility, bias, safeguarding and the responsible use of AI and brain-related data.
